Post replaced the fire surround with one she designed in gold Jerusalem limestone and framed with white lacquer. Above it hangs a painting by Ellsworth Kelly. "We wanted to make the wall prominent with a great piece of art," she remarks.

Six distinct areas were carved out of the 900-square-foot apartment, including a home office that occupies an entire bedroom wall. "I utilized every inch and accentuated the feeling of pureness and light throughout," the designer comments.

"The kitchen is long, lean and clean," observes Post, who designed flush cabinetry and eschewed hardware. "I wanted it to whisper in white lacquer but still be tailored and smart-looking." In lieu of a table is an island that can seat up to six.
