Last week, Christie’s in New York auctioned off the collection of media mogul Richard Mellon Scaife. Drawn from his four estates, including homes in Pittsburgh and Nantucket, the lots included fine English furniture, Chinese porcelain, and dessert services, and sold for a total of $3.9 million. This pair of English gilt-wood console tables more than tripled their high estimate of $15,000, selling for $52,500.
