Check out ten artist-designed rugs

A fleet of artist-designed rugs takes the floor

A departure from the common canvas, the rug as medium has long captured artists’ attention. Henri Matisse’s famous cutouts made their way into punchy rugs. Salvador Dalí channeled his surrealist spirit into fanciful floor coverings. And Wassily Kandinsky reworked his iconic “Small Worlds” compositions into colorful carpets. Now a new flock of artist-designed rugs proves that art need not be restricted to the wall.
