Plants are a must-have when it comes to design. They’re a simple way to add a natural element, a sense of airiness, and a punch of color to a neutral-toned project. But have you ever considered plants as an easy way to make a space feel more private and intimate? When we caught a glimpse of the lushpampas grasslining the windows atPressed Rootshair salon in Dallas, we had to find more ways to useplantsfor privacy.

Pressed Roots in Dallas is not your typical hair salon. Specifically built for women with textured hair, the branding and subsequent salon design are equal parts strong and feminine. The pink plaster volumes “anchor the different parts of the space while each also acts as a backdrop for the clients and stylists,” says designerJohn Paul Valverde. There’s the curved island, custom pink powder-coated mirrors, pampas grass, and dried palm fronds covering the walls. “We wanted the plants to feel airy, soft, and textural but didn’t want to go with faux plants or something traditional like Foxwoods,” he adds.
